A Pair Of Dining Room Chairs Meet A Drop ClothI have two dining room chairs, that once dressed in slipcovers, will be great placed at the ends of the newly refinished table.
(These legs need covering, not a good match!)
For ideas on how to tackle this project I looked around the wonderful blog Pink and Polka Dot, the place I found my inspiration when covering the two chairs for Max's Bedroom.

For this project I'll be using drop cloths, which are being pre-washed...
...and that is as far as I have gotten!!
I did say the kids have had some extra days off from school, so a little progress is a big achievement.

My dining chairs in my old house were made from drop clothes:) They lasted for years! Good luck:)

I picked up a drop cloth Monday, but it's just so I can paint one of my blue dressers! Can't wait to see the steps on making the slip cover. I haven't pulled out my sewing machine, yet. I think I'm intimidated;-)
Yep. Ya gotta have kiddos in school to get almost ANYTHING done around the house. lol. :) Looks like it is coming along great though! ;)

I am really curious about this project. I had once read a tutorial on using a drop cloth to recover a wingback but reading was as far as I got. . . .Look forward to seeing how this turns out.
I keep looking at a couple of slipper chairs that I have that are waiting to be upholstered....even have the peacock blue velveteen to put on them.....I understand intimidation!!!

I bought Kristi's eBook on how to make slipcovers last year. I made a slipcover for my husband's Lazy Boy. It was my hardest sewing project to date. But I couldn't stand looking at his chair another minute.

I can't wait to see what you do with those drop cloths. My kids are off this week as well. We are leaving for NYC to go and see a broadway show. I think I will blog about it tomorrow or else I will have nothing else to post about since I've gotten very little done with them home and playing camp counselor. Yikes.

Drop cloth will be so nice. It's sturdy and can handle the ware and tare of kids. Excited to see how they turn out!!

Can't wait to see what you do with the drop cloths! I've contemplated using drop cloths on some binatge chairs in our family room. Maybe even adding a design to them with fabric paint. Looking forward to seeing the after pics!

They are going to look amazing. I bought drop cloths for slipcovers for my living room couch and chair and to make skirts for my dining room chairs. I'm always trying to figure out what size is easier to work with. I sure hope they don't start raising the price on them because designers and diy folks are using them.

I love dropcloths for slipcovers - I made one for my last white sofa and still have the matching white chair. So rugged - after 11 years it still looks great! My dining chairs have slips I bought at IKEA about 8 years ago and I love them. :) can't wait to see yours!
Drop cloths are a great resource for economical and sturdy fabric. I once made a fitted, piped cushioned slipcover for a two seater sofa( I was not working at the time snd it still took me a couple weeks)out of drop cloths that cost about 10$ a piece.
The table looks wonderful btw. My only other thought on the chairs is that the backs don't quite look tall enough to fit the proportions/scale of the table.
Can't wait to see the final result though!

Susan, what an interesting point! We shall see how they end up looking: working with what I've got! I think in the end having the slipcovers reach to the floor will balance their scale with the table.

I purchased a 2-pack of canvas drop clothes from Home Depot and are going to use them to make two headboards for my future guest room. The fabric, while a little stiff out of the package, washed up nicely and looks very linen-y! I have 4 parsons slipcovers from Ballard Designs that I bought and the fabric looks very similar, I have to say. Unfortunately, I'm not a sewer, so I spent the $59 per slipcover ~ I'm looking forward to seeing how your slipcovers turn out!
Love drop cloths. Perfect for kids because you can bleach them and use the strongest detergent on them without worrying about the fabric wearing out.

Table looks great, and I think the chairs will be fab, too. Why don't you paint the legs a high gloss gray - about the same shade as the table?

I made my drapes out of drop clothes years ago. They still look beautiful. My couch is slip covered in Ikea velvet drapes I dyed gray and my ottomans are slip covered in bedspreads from Homegoods. Happy sewing!
